Activator
Ms. Rocco will gather student on the carpet and she reviews how to retell a fiction story using Beginning, Middle and End.

Procedure:

1. Okay, students today we will continue reading Mercy Watson to the Rescue to finish our retell chart. Remember when we retell we are only telling the important part of the story. It is important to remember when you are retelling a story it just a short recount of what you just read. The part you choose must make sense to someone who has never read the story.  Therefore you have to make it clear how one event led into another. Make sure you include the most important event from the beginning, middle, and end. For each part try to say it in one or two simple sentences.
2- Ms. Wright started to read Mercy Watson to the Rescue chapter 10-12
3. Guided Students and teacher will review the beginning and the middle of the story teacher refer to the anchor chart that was created before. (let look at the retelling chart and recount what we already know about beginning to the end of the story. Now that we have read the end of the story what’s the most important thing happened at the end? How can we say this in one or two sentences?
4. Check for understanding: Why is it important that you only tell the important details and not all the details. (It is important to do so because a retelling is a summary, which means only one or two sentences about the important parts). They will complete the graphic organizer that they have started the before.
5. Independently: Student will be given a story to read They will have to retell the story only with the important details. The teacher will divide them into three groups, Each will be responsible for the section. (B.M.E ) Students will summarise the story by using the book builder websites and only create their section with the key details.
6. Both teachers will circulate to assist where necessary. After completing the retell each group will share their summary of the different part of the story.  The teacher will put the three parts together and make one summary of the book with details of the beginning, middle, and end. This will be shown on Google Doc. from the whiteboard.

Differentiation:
Ø  Students in the lower tier will receive support from teachers also from their group members.
Ø  Assistant teacher will circulate to support where needed.

Evaluation
Students will be graded based on a teacher designed rubric. In the rubric, students will be assessed on the content and design of the book as well as their use of technology throughout the lesson.
